£43,414 to £51,805 per annum, pro-rata

The role

Classical Studies at The Open University is recruiting a lecturer to play a key role in strengthening and building our inclusive and forward-facing Classical Studies teaching and to contribute to our growing schools outreach programme. The discipline offers a stimulating and supportive intellectual environment for anyone interested in working across different fields of Classical Studies and contributing to the thriving academic community in the Discipline, School and Faculty.

The successful candidate will work in a team presenting and maintaining distance-learning resources across our undergraduate curriculum as well as acting as principal author for a new public facing OpenLearn course on ancient Greek language. They will also support and coordinate activities associated with our Classical Studies schools outreach programme.

In addition to contributing to teaching and outreach within the School of Arts and Humanities, the post-holder will be expected to engage actively in Classical Studies research and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Skills and Experience

Skills and experience essential to the role include:

  *   Experience of teaching at a range of undergraduate levels in Classical Studies
  *   Experience of teaching Classical Studies online and/or producing distance-learning materials

  *   A profile of teaching excellence in Greek language and literature
  *   The ability and readiness to contribute to the production, maintenance and updating of Classical Studies modules
  *   An understanding of the latest pedagogical techniques for teaching Classical Studies in HE, including the issues involved in supporting and delivering distance learning programmes

  *   The ability to contribute to raising the profile of Classical Studies, e.g. through outreach and knowledge exchange activities
